An opportunity to step in ICT based career offered to A/L students

An ICT Awareness program was organized by VanniTech 4th batch of students during the second quarter break. It was held since May 28th, 2007 till June 01st, 2007 to build up the self-confidence and interest among advanced level students to choose their career in ICT fields.

The awareness on ICT seems to be poor in the North-East districts even GIT- General Information Technology has been put into practice in advanced level curriculum as one of the courses for all streams of students. The root cause for this scenario was identified as lack of resource persons to teach IT and GIT courses in local schools. As an initiative VanniTech stepped forward to offer these kinds of awareness programs to make them realize the value of learning ICT for their career opportunities. 337 participants from 05 selected schools were benefited from this seminar.

A presentation on “The Awareness on ICT” was delivered to highlight its existing applications and their benefits. It was followed by a demo on “LIMAS”, a Windows Based Application, which was designed by a VanniTech graduate to automate the library inventory. The beneficiaries were taken around VanniTech to experience the networked and automated work environment. They were enchanted by the computerized learning and working atmosphere due to this visit.

After tea break, a demo on “Web Based Application” was conducted to visualize the functions of online e-commerce at www.partycool.com , website of a Canada based wholesale trader for party items, which was designed as outsourcing project under Pro-Hire service of TechShack. It was pursued by a demo on “Embedded System for controlling road traffic”, which was developed for Field Deployable Project. In addition to this, a “PDA Application for mobile auditing” to update the costing for goods in the market was demonstrated, which was programmed for MCA, a Canadian auditing firm by NextSols.

All these demos constructed confidence and motivation to empower these participants with productive tools to innovate standard projects equal to world class applications. Eventually feedbacks were collected for further development in offering efficient programs in future. VanniTech students were given an opportunity to polish their soft skills and to share the expertise to the society in a fruitful way.

“Most of my students would definitely engage in ICT based development projects right after their advanced level education because they have recognized VanniTech as a right place to develop their career professionally and I would also like to point out that my elder sister Ms. S. Ahalya, a former graduate of VanniTech has found a good position in the society and we are enjoying a good living condition due to her career, which was made possible by the higher-education given by VanniTech”, proudly said Mr. S. Lalithananthan, an ICT Instructor, Kn/Kilinochchi Central College in his feedback. This heartbreaking comment boosts up VanniTech and its donors to work with hand in hand to offer valuable hi-tech education to the deserving individuals who are depriving for a better life for ages.
