| VanniTech, Kilinochchi. - April
25, 2005: Vanni Institute of Technology (VanniTech)
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Computer
Zone Consulting Inc. (CZC), a US based Information Technology
consulting company, today, paving the way for the first
business outsourcing venture in the North-East.
According to the agreement, CZC would initially hire
one VanniTech graduate, for its offshore software development
needs and explore its business expansion in the future.
The employee will be working for CZC but stationed at
VanniTech, supervised and guided by TechShack, which
is VanniTech’s Employment Incubation Center.
TechShack has previously provided technology solutions
for CZC, notably a web presence solution for one of
its clients from the medical record industry and is
currently working on an e-commerce solution for CZC.
“Although we are aware that many IT projects
are being outsourced to India, VanniTech was a good
decision for us mainly due to their competitive pricing,”
said Mr. Andrew Ambrose, Senior Consultant of Computer
Zone Consulting Inc. “We are able to reduce our
development cost by over 40%, with larger savings expected
in the future. Our experience with VanniTech has been
wonderful so far and we look forward to a long-term
relationship with the institution and its graduates.”
TechShack, with the mission of training students and
creating employments, is lately focusing on international
outsourcing opportunities. It has come up with new programs
to attract small companies and individual entrepreneurs
by letting them hire its graduates furnished with office
space and equipments.
“This is a historical step for VanniTech to move
towards self sustainability,” said Mr. Shantharahavan
Thangathurai, President of VanniTech, “as more
companies discover the benefits of a cost-effective
and quality workforce that our graduates could provide
with, this region would attract many more outsourced
projects, thus creating employment opportunities and
enabling technological advancement and economic development
of the region.” He added “as we provide
a good career path, more students would choose VanniTech
over other tertiary educational institutions.”
Dr. Ratnam Sooriyakumaran, Chairman of International
Tamil Technical Professionals’ Organization (ITTPO)
which founded and funds VanniTech, said, “This
is an important milestone in the path to fulfilling
our goals of generating employment opportunities for
our students and achieving technology competency in
the region. This is just the beginning and I am confident
that there will be many more opportunities like this
in the future.”
