    VanniTech Demonstrates New Technologies to Eastern University of Sri Lanka in     Batticaloa

 

VanniTech, Kilinochchi. – March 26 2005: Vanni Institute of Technology (VanniTech) held a seminar on new technologies at the Eastern University of Sri Lanka (EUSL) in Batticaloa recently.

The seminar held on March 16, 2005 at the Eastern University main auditorium was conducted by VanniTech staff members. It was attended by the university’s science faculty students of about 200 that also included about 25 of the faculty’s staff members.

 

The focus of this seminar was on the new technologies emerging in the market that included PLC (short for power line communications and also known as BPC or broadband power communications, it is a technology by which communication signals can be sent over existing electric power lines), RFID (short for radio frequency identification, it is a term used to describe various technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify people or objects), Wi-Fi (short for wireless fidelity, it is used to refer to the wireless networks that are based on the 802.11 standards) and PDA (short for personal digital assistant, it is a handheld device that combines computing, telephone/fax, Internet and networking features).

The seminar which consisted of presentations and actual practical demonstrations of the above technologies was received well by the audience whose feedback was very positive. “The actual demonstration of new technologies was not something we have experienced before,” said Mr. S Thatheeswaran, Instructor, Center for Information and Communication Technology, EUSL. “The practical demonstrations made the understanding and experience most realistic,” added a student who attended the seminar.

VanniTech plans to hold a similar seminar at the University of Jaffna on March 30, 2005.
