Tech celebrates the convocation of its second batch of graduates
VanniTech, Kilinochchi. – March 10, 2006:
Vanni Institute of Technology (VanniTech), an advanced technological
institute in the heart of Vanni, held the convocation of its second batch
of graduates, who have successfully completed their one year
high-technological study programs such as Computer Communications and
Networking, Database Applications Development, Electronics and Web Based
Applications Development with Project Management and Business English to
uplift the standard of the war-torn North-East region with their expertise,
here in Kilinochchi. 42 students with 21 females hailing from several districts
of the North-East of Sri Lanka graduated.

The graduates received
their Honors and Diplomas at the convocation ceremony held on March 10,
2006, at 10:30 AM, at the Kilinochchi Cultural Hall. Among them 9 graduates
were honored with honors degree for their outstanding academic performance
by Professor Ms R Mageswaran, Rector of Vavuniya Campus, University of Jaffna. Professor Mrs
R Mageswaran, Rector of the Vavuniya Campus, University of Jaffna, was the
guest of honor at the ceremony with Mr Bala Thurairetnam, President of
VanniTech, presiding. Parents, first batch of graduates, local community
officials, administrative and INGO/NGO officials were also invited. Mr K P
Regi, Chief Executive Director-TRO, lit the traditional oil lamp.
Mr S Thangan, Deputy Leader of the political wing of the LTTE, who was the
chief guest at the ceremony, congratulated the passing out graduates and
called upon them to give their maximum gained through the study program
towards the technological advancement of the Tamil Nation which has witnessed
a devastating war of two decades. Citing the initiative taken by the
International Tamil Technical Professionals' Organization (ITTPO) in setting up
VanniTech despite the fact that none of other organizations came forward to
initiate this noble project, he added that the Tamil expatriates have always
remembered and continued to commit themselves towards the rebuilding of their
motherland. He also highly appreciated the VanniTech and its graduates for
contributing significantly in developing the North-East to be technically par
with the world.

Mr. Bala
Thurairetnam, Chairman of the VanniTech board and President of VanniTech,
read a congratulatory message from the ITTPO and reiterated that the
graduates could be instrumental in taking our motherland from ashes and ruins
to glory. He was followed by the guest of honor, Professor Ms R Mageswaran,
who after congratulating the new graduates, said that measures should be
taken to offer 4 year degree courses in high-tech disciplines because,
VanniTech is the only sole institute in the North-East of Sri Lanka producing
technical professionals to fulfill our industrial needs efficiently.

ITTPO, a
non-profit charitable organization based in California,
established VanniTech on June 23, 2003. The second batch of students was enrolled
in June 2004 and they completed their program of studies along with their
Field Deployable Projects (FDP) in May 2005. These projects were
successfully deployed in the various agencies that sponsored them. The FDP
and other projects include database, web based, Palm PDA, hardware and
network solutions for Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations
notably United Nations Development Program, Provincial Education
Ministry-North-East, Humanitarian Demining Unit, The Economy Consultancy
House and Pre-School Educational Development Unit-TRO. The graduates also
showcased their technology prowess through VanniVision '05, a three-day
exhibition held in May, at the VanniTech campus in Kilinochchi. In the
next phase of this institution, it is expected to move to a new 150-acre
site in Arivial Nagar in the suburbs of Kilinochchi offering two and four
year degrees in high-tech and other fields. The eventual growth path of
this Institution is expected to lead to a world-class university.

VanniTech is an Advanced Technological Institute, and a
registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Kilinochchi,
Sri Lanka. The objective of VanniTech is to generate high-tech
employment in the war torn North-East Sri Lanka and prepare
the people in the region to compete in the global market.
To meet this objective, VanniTech is offering university-level
courses in software development, electronics, and computer
communications in English medium. VanniTech instructors include
local professionals with degrees from highly reputable universities
