    243 beneficiaries of IT from educational society drawn by VanniTech

 

The high-tech expertise and resources of VanniTech were shared among the school students and teachers from remote locations of Vanni region once again through an IT awareness program “Introduction to Information Technology”, completely driven by its 4th batch of students during the first quarter break of academic year 2006/2007. It was conducted for six days from February 21 – 28, 2007 in the institute premises. 06 schools from Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi educational zones were covered and 234 students and 09 teachers benefited by this program.

 
Programs were held for more than six hours for each participant. Also all participants were given three hours of hands on experience on Software Applications and PC hardware inside the lab.
Software Lab

The participants had been divided into two groups since software lab consists of 20 machines.The seminar was started with an introductory presentation on VanniTech and its missions and it was followed by a demonstration on some basic applications such as, Word processing, simple accounting using Spreadsheets, Painting, Designing Power Point slides with animations, GPS based geographical viewing of various locations, Entertainment, Video Conferencing, Internet based applications i.e. e-business, e-library, e-mail and chatting.

The major objectives of this seminar such as, spread IT awareness to lay a foundation to follow the IT course in the school curriculum and improve our students’ leadership, presentation and team working skills were successfully accomplished by the dedicated students of VanniTech in accordance with the participants’ feedback.
 

“When I came here I had no idea about IT, but now I have a clear picture on IT and its applications practically through an effective demo delivered by VanniTech students” said, a student from Kn/Puthumurippu Vigneswara Vidyalaya, which is located 20 km far away from the Kilinochchi town. “I’m curious to follow my higher studies in IT field at Vanni Institute of Technology after I’ve completed my advanced level education” written by most of the beneficiaries at the end of the program.

It clearly shows that how VanniTech should play a major role in offering these kinds of IT awareness programs in future to the students who are depriving for a development in their standards of living for ages in the war-torn areas of the North-East Sri Lanka.

About VanniTech

VanniTech is an Advanced Technological Institute, and a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Kilinochchi, Sri Lanka.
