VanniTech Holds Its Very First Convocation
Vanni Institute of Technology (VanniTech), an advanced technological
institute in the heart of Vanni, today announced the graduation
ceremony planned for its first batch of students who have
successfully completed their study program. 52 graduates with
30 females from several districts of North-East of Sri Lanka
will receive their certificates at the convocation ceremony
scheduled for August 8, 2004, at 10:30 AM, at the Killinochchi
Cultural Center. Professor S. Mohanadas, Vice Chancellor of
the University of Jaffna will be the Chief Guest at the ceremony
with Dr. Siva Gopal, President of VanniTech, presiding. Parents,
local community leaders, administrative and INGO/NGO leaders
are also invited.
The International Tamil Technical Professionals’ Organization
(ITTPO), a non-profit charitable organization based in California,
USA, established VanniTech in 2003. The first batch of students
were enrolled in June 2003 and they completed their program
of studies along with their Field Deployable Projects (FDP)
in February 2004. These projects were successfully deployed
in the various agencies that sponsored them. The FDP and other
projects include database and network solutions for Governmental
and Non-Governmental organizations notably NECORD (funded
by ADB), United Nations - World Food Program, United Nations
Development Program, District Secretariat and the Zonal Education
Office. The graduates also showcased their technology prowess
through VanniVision ’04, a two-day exhibition held in
March, at the VanniTech campus in Killinochchi.
“History will be made on August 8, 2004, as VanniTech’s
first batch graduates,” said Dr. Ratnam Sooriyakumaran,
chairman of ITTPO. “The graduates have proved their
potential and we believe they would fulfill their obligation
by contributing to the rehabilitation and development of war-torn
North-East region of Sri Lanka.” He added “the
donors and volunteers worldwide who made this possible are
proud of this monumental achievement.”
In the next phase of this institution, it is expected to
move to a new 150-acre site in the Arivial Nagar in the suburbs
of Killinochchi offering two and four year degrees in high-tech
and other fields. The eventual growth path of this Institution
is expected to lead to a world-class university.
