Vanni Institute of Technology
Vanni Institute of Technology is a high-tech educational
institute established by the International Tamil Technical
Professionals' Organization. The institute, also known as
VanniTech, was inaugurated in June 2003 in the town of Kilinochchi.
It hopes to teach latest technology to the people of North-East,
generate high-tech employment in the region and prepare them
to compete in the international market. Vanni Institute of
Technology is a registered Non-Governmental Organization in
Sri Lanka.
International Tamil Technical Professionals'
Organization
The International Tamil Technical Professionals' Organization
(ITTPO) is an international effort initiated in September
2002, and dedicated to the technological advancement of the
people of North-East of Sri Lanka. ITTPO expects to bring
the expatriates and other volunteers from high tech industries,
research establishments, and universities together and channel
their expertise to the development of North-East.
ITTPO, based in California is an independent, non-profit,
and a federal tax exempt organization in the USA and an approved
Non Governmental Organization (NGO) in Sri Lanka.
Students and Staff
There are about 60 students enrolled in 4 programs. 53%
of them are females. VanniTech has about 30 academic and non-academic
employees. Our staff consists of graduates from University
of North London, University of Jaffna, University of Moratuwa,
University of Peradeniya and Singapore Informatics.
Facility
VanniTech facility consists of 3 administrative offices,
two lecture halls, software lab, hardware lab, networking
lab, language lab, library, TechShack - VanniTech's Employment
Incubation Center, cafeteria, gymnasium and a 13 room hostel.
All of the offices, lecture halls, labs and the library are
networked. There are more than 50 computers in the network
which consists of switches/routers. It has complete Intranet
service with e-mail, database servers and wireless connectivity.
VanniTech has a fully catalogued library with over 1500
books, and in the process of shelving more than 15000.
Two diesel powered electrical generators provide adequate
power supply to VanniTech.
Academic Program
Currently VanniTech offers 4 programs in the field of computer
software, hardware and networking. The duration of the program

Future
VanniTech strives to become an institution to the level of
leading universities around the world. The immediate goal
is to build a permanent campus on its own land and make the
12 month program into a two year degreed one. It would eventually
become an institution that offers undergraduate and graduate
degrees in numerous disciplines.
Help
VanniTech needs all kinds of help in achieving its goals,
from financial to book donations. And from coming up with
educational programs to becoming visiting instructors. Sponsoring
of scholarships, equipments etc. is also being requested.
